Talk: 4-5pm The Office of Non- Compliance, Earlsfort Terrace
ABSENCE: One Potential Place for Architecture in Contemporary Irish Art
Practice
Dr Ellen Rowley presents a talk at 4-5pm in association with Dublin Contemporary and IMMA for Culture Night.
As the title describes, Ellen Rowley’s talk reflects upon the place and role of architecture in elements of contemporary Irish art practice. As an architectural historian engaged in history-writing through the joint sites of archive, lost and extant buildings, polemics and oral accounts, Ellen has been intrigued by the recurring motif of architecture in the work of many Irish artists today. In the words of architect/philosopher Dalibor Vesely, “history is not the past, but the depth of the present.”

This talk is free and open to the public, and is programmed in association with IMMA’s Education and Community Programmes.
