Exhibiting in Main Exhibition Venue: Earlsfort Terrace
Born 1970 in Trinidad (CUB)

The prominence of surveillance systems and the accompanying obsession with control during our time had served as a key source for the work Alexandre began in 2003. Investigation into this issue led him to develop a body of work dealing with loss of privacy, fragility, memory and the failure of control and power. On July 4th 2003 after a long and prolific collaboration, Alexandre Arrechea left the art collective Los Carpinteros in order to pursue a career as a solo artist. Since then he has exhibited in the 54th Venice Biennial 2011, as well as in solo shows at The Bronx Museum 2010 and the San Diego Museum of Art 2007. In 2010 he staged “Black Sun” 2009, a public art project, in New York’s mythical Times Square.
