Primary School Programme
Over 114 artists exhibited at Dublin Contemporary 2011 and the wide range of subject matter exhibited offered many links with the Primary Visual Arts Curriculum and with all Key Stages for Primary Schools in Northern Ireland.
Key concepts of space, form, line, colour and shape were explored through the use of a wide range of media during our practical workshops. Older primary level students were encouraged to expand their aesthetic sensitivity and develop their language skills by looking at and responding to the work on show, facilitated by a member of the DC2011 Education Team.
Duration: 1.5 hours approx
Post Primary Programme
Dublin Contemporary 2011 aimed to foster a cross-curricular approach in the delivery of its Education Programme. The range of artwork being shown meant that many connections with the disciplines of Science, Mathematics, Language & Literature and Philosophy could be made. Dublin Contemporary 2011 staff had experience in teaching both the Post-Primary Visual Arts Curriculum and the A-Level Visual Arts Curriculum.
There were three options are available for post-primary schools:
1: Critical Engagement: A 45 minute session aimed at senior cycle and A-Level students took a look at a selection of work in the exhibition with a view to improving visual language and writing skills. This workshop included an element of peer review and writing.
2: Exhibition Walkthrough: A 45 minute session aimed at all levels gave students an overview of the exhibition and involved a discussion and feedback session.
3: Discussion and Art-Making: These sessions lasted 1.5 hours approx. They explored a selection of works from the exhibition
and was followed by a workshop.
